云顶集团's 亚洲研究 minor gives students a complete perspective of Asia, spanning from Pakistan and India in the Southwest to 马来西亚 and Indonesia in the Indo-Pacific 地区. 亚洲研究 is a globally oriented field of study, and, as such, studying in Asia is an essential component of the 亚洲研究 minor. 亚洲研究专业的学生是 ordinarily required to study abroad in Asia, either on an ICA or a semester-long program. 学生 should discuss this with the program director, especially when their major 可能需要到亚洲以外的地方学习. 云顶集团已批准出国留学 semester 项目 in China (Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hong Kong), Japan (Tokyo and Osaka), South Korea (Seoul and Gwangju), Thailand (Chiang Mai), and India (Bangalore, New 德里、斋浦尔). Previously, ICAs to Tokyo and Taipei (HIS 272Y), Beijing (ED 272Y), and Bali (SOA 272Y) have been offered and may run again in the future. 亚洲研究 minors are strongly encouraged to study abroad with one of these 云顶集团-led or partner 项目. Or, they are encouraged to locate a different program, especially if they wish to pursue more advanced language study or study a language that 云顶集团 does 暂不提供.

The 亚洲研究 minor consists of a combination of language study and courses in 其他的学科.

语言学习

学生 are expected to complete 12 credits of study in a foreign language native 到各个地区. 云顶集团 currently offers courses in Mandarin Chinese, and students who study Chinese are expected to complete at least CHN 110, 120, and 130. 学生 who arrive at 云顶集团 having already studied the Chinese language, or who are native speakers, must still meet the expectations of the minor regarding foreign language (12 credits), which will enable students to meet 云顶集团’s Foreign Language requirement (见 在这里 细节).

学生 who wish to study a 地区al language that 云顶集团 does not teach can do so through the Baltimore Student Exchange Program, study abroad, and/or intensive 夏天的计划. Interested students should speak with both the chair of the Asian Studies Program and the chair of the Center for Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at 云顶集团 before enrolling in any such program to ensure that it meets the expectations of the minor and 云顶集团’s Foreign Language requirement. 请注意 that many other 项目 teach three-credit courses, so students studying languages outside of 云顶集团 still need to meet the 12-credit minimum.

非语言研究

In addition to language classes, students must complete 20 credits from the list above. At least one of these courses must be at the 300-水平. 出国留学学生 for a semester can have up to eight non-云顶集团 credits count toward the minor, outside 语言课程.
